SpiceJet, a no-frills airline, is facing some challenges as several of its aircraft have been grounded due to payment issues with lessors. However, the airline has announced its plans to overcome these obstacles and stay afloat. They intend to lease 10 narrow-body Boeing aircraft, including five B737 Max, by October.
During this time, SpiceJet is also working on restoring and bringing back into service its grounded aircraft. In a statement, the airline expressed its optimism about the situation, stating that these planes will begin returning to service soon. Ajay Singh, the Chairman and Managing Director of SpiceJet, emphasized the significance of the upcoming induction of 10 B737 aircraft between September and October. He explained that this coincides with the peak travel season in India, enabling the airline to introduce new routes and strengthen its presence on existing ones.
SpiceJet has already signed a lease agreement for these 10 planes, and they will gradually join the fleet starting from September to meet the increasing demand. Singh acknowledged the notable surge in passenger demand and expressed hope that this trend will continue throughout the remainder of the year.
To accommodate the growing needs of the Indian aviation market, SpiceJet has been actively planning to add capacity, according to Singh. They are determined to address the rising demand and ensure a seamless travel experience for their customers.
